Vincent Corpet - Musée Abbaye Sainte-Croix - France

The Parisian artist Vincent Corpet is being honoured until next January. His work, which is very free, lavish and iconoclastic, is brought together in a hundred or so works.
It is a far from exhaustive retrospective that the Musée de l'Abbaye Sainte-Croix (MASC) in Sables-d'Olonne has been offering since Sunday 16 October. With 107 paintings tracing the work of a painter who produced nearly 4,000 paintings in 40 years, the Sable museum pays tribute to the iconoclast Vincent Corpet.
Initially chronological, the retrospective focuses more on the forms drawn by the artist than on the subject. It quickly highlights the principle of analogy, which is dear to Vincent Corpet. "It is a painting in all its states," describes Gaëlle Rageot-Deshayes, chief curator and director of the MASC. "In this exhibition, there is a real crossing of the history of art", Gaëlle Rageot-Deshayes continues. Vincent Corpet himself does not contradict the curator's words: "The paintings on display do indeed represent a journey".
The exhibition runs until 15 January 2023.
